I have 30 of these blue ring drives. Been using them for 2 years now without any problems. One finally failed so I grabbed a spare, ensured it was at the same firmware revision as the rest, plugged a working old one and the new one into my desktop box via sata cables, mounted the root, /var, and /shares/internal under /mnt/old and /mnt/new. Then "cp -a /mnt/old /mnt/new". Now new's a brick.
Shouldn't that have worked? It's not touching the boot sector, so there shouldn't have been any mucking around with mac addresses or checksums. I just wanted all the configuration and data to be exactly the same as the old drive. Any ideas?
