I made a big boo boo last night. I manually edited /etc/passwd file on My Book World White Light (single drive) and now I can't login as root. I don't have su or sudo installed on it either. So, I am locked out :( I can login as 'admin', but admin has limited permissions.
The morning I called tech support and they couldn't help me :( I am running the latest and greatest version of firmware, so I can't update my firmware either. I am not even sure if firmware update will fix the issue. Here is what I am thinking of doing:
1. Remove HD from the case
2. Use either SATA->USB cable or SATA enclosure to connect it to my pc
3. Manually edit /etc/passwd file ( I know what to change there to bring root account back to normal )
4. Put HD back into the case.
Now, is this the best solution? Is it possible to remove HD from the case? I tried to open it today and I just couldn't, it doesn't have any screws, how do I open it?!
