Hi, I've just got a mybook 1TB and need help with setting up the ftp server.
I bought it second hand and someone had already set up SSH and rTorrent, which works fine. Using these instructions HERE, I've downloaded, unpacked and installed vsftpd, I think!
I'm just not quite sure if it's worked properly. When I try and login via FlashFXP (My FTP client), I get this message:
500 OOPS: vsftpd: not found: directory given in 'secure_chroot_dir':/usr/share/empty Error: 10054:Connection reset by peer
There are also some other things that may be wrong. I've read that to restart the service you can type "/etc/init.d/vsftpd restart" but it says file not found so I'm unsure as to whether it's installed properly.
I want to set up FTP to increase the transfer speeds. For some reason I imagine that FTP will take less CPU power than windows networking but maybe that's not the case. In which case I'll just persevere. Copying 300Gb to the device is a nightmare though!
P.S. Thanks for any help, but please remember I'm a total linux noob. I'm quite capable of following exact instructions but apart from that… not much!
