Hey there folks,
I've spent the last four days reading through your forums and trying out a lot to get back some of my data. Well I've purchased a MBWE 4TB NAS like 1.5 weeks ago. Mostly because I needed fast and massive storage for HD video material while being on a music festival. When I found out the transfer speed of the mounted device is similar to USB 2.0 I was disappointed. Well, over last weekend I collected like 1 TB of HD footage material and put it on the drive. When I came back home I could copy anything except for one file (45GB) to my internal data drive, soon after that the device failed on me and refused to mount correctly. I've tried copying over FTP and SSH, none had worked. On friday I returned the device to the vendor and asked if they could help me get back my data. They refused. Data recovery is not within the guarantee. Anyway I was sick of the NAS and exchanged it for a MyBook Studio Edition with FW800 (Yes, before recovering all the data first - haha). But convinced the service personal to exchange one 2TB drive from the NAS with one from the Studio Edition, because I thought to give data recovery a last try.
Well turned out I still can't get hold of this one file as I can't mount the former raid 1 drive alone over SATA. I tried ubuntu live, but I can't mount the disk because the data partition is an unknown file system (sda4). I can mount sda1 and sda3 though, as they're both recognized as Ext3.
Any ideas how to retrieve the data?
Thanks in advance!
