I’m completely new to NAS and need some help. I stumbled upon this page while googling for help. I read about SSH, Linux commands etc but it’s all a bit disjointed. I’ve never used Linux, but I have used MSDOS so command line doesn’t scare me. I am reasonably IT literate, just don’t have experience with Linux or Unix, or networking in general. My OS is currently Windows 7 Home Premium and my NAS is the white light version.
Ok, this is my problem. Using the built-in config program, I created a folder share \NAS_MOVIES. This folder share is empty. My movies are all stored on a USB drive which I have also plugged into the NAS. They show up as \USBShares or something like that (can’t remember the exact name). All the content on the USB is shared by default.
Q1 - How do I get specific folders from the USB drive onto the \NAS_MOVIES share without copying the contents into the NAS? I tried using symbolic links in Win7 with MkLink but I get access denied error.
Q2 – I read about using SSH to control the NAS. I read the First Steps section on this page and enabled SSH on the MyBookWorld. Then the guide talks about login as root and I don’t know what that means anymore. How do I run SSH on a Windows 7 home premium computer? Do I need to install any additional software on Win7?
