I´d upgraded my MyBook World Edition (Whitelight, Single Drive) last night with the latest firmware from WDC (01.02.10). Everything ran Ok. Since that, the device keeps going off the network, sometimes it returns if I unplug/replug the network cable. In other cases, I have to reboot the system.
Any tips on what is going on?
Is it possible to return to the previous firmware? Where to get the FW?
me too! damn.
I wrote to wd
but will try the firmware?
Hey Bonne,
Do you use transmission on your MB WE? I´ve got a tip to watch on this since this may cause overload on the connection.
I´ll uninstall that and make a try.
I published this discussion on WD forum

Fine. thanks !!! It seems that there is a lot of people having the same issue.
It seems that the modifications of the two last editions of this firmware have to do with twonky. Did you stop this server to see if the problem goes away?
Got an answer from WD.
1. The firmware is not downgradable… So this defines that we won´t have an workaround solution soon..
2. They asked me to reset the unit using the reset button. Well, I´ve already done this in the first place and still got the problem. You can do this to see if the magic works for you.
Yes it is normally not downgradable, but there are a lot of exemples on this site to do it if your have a firmware available.
Here you can find the version 01.02.05
You can try then :
a) to download the above file, change etc/version to 01.02.04, and do a manual upgrade with web UI : see [http://mybookworld.wikidot.com/forum/t-197814#post-636992]
or
b) [http://mybookworld.wikidot.com/forum/t-175889/how-to-recover-unbrick-reset-the-wd-mybook-while-light-possible-scenarios#post-635692]
uncomment the line with firmware link and replace it by (check before the availability of the URL):
FIRMWARE_URL="http://dl.free.fr/rYRNu6VqN"
Hope it helps. Please return if it works
I have this issue too and received the same response as smafra from WD! Sometimes I am able to unplug the network cable and reconnect it and the MBW comes back on the network again (I assume via ifplugd?), but other times even that doesn't work!
I have moved all my data off the drive and reset it using the web interface and via the reset button, but to no avail! I will have a go at downgrading the firmware too and hope that a new firmware release becomes available soon!? The whole reason I upgraded in the first place was to resolve the AFP incompatibility with OSX 10.7 Lion, so back to no backups until a new release comes out :S :(
.
I think the issue may be related to when Time Machine is used, as I have two of these drives, one for TM and one for Media streaming, the media drive has been firmware upgraded and has stayed solid on my network for a couple of weeks now. However the drive I use exclusively for TM drops off the networks after every couple of backups. So I'm assuming this AFP update has screwed it somewhere.
Possibly, but I'm wondering if the problem isn't somehow related to Windows 7, or with some combination of Mac and Windows 7. I was having no problems with my MBWE, with the old firmware, on a mixed Windows XP & Macintosh network. (I think it was firmware 01.01.04, but I don't remember for sure. It was 2009 vintage.) Then I introduced a new computer with Windows 7. Suddenly, I started seeing these dropouts. The symptoms were identical to what was described here: sometimes unplugging and replugging the Ethernet worked, sometimes I need to power cycle it. In an attempt to remedy the situation, I updated to 01.02.10. It seems to have gotten worse, but the problem existed before I updated the firmware. Could it be that both 01.01.04 and 01.02.10 exhibit similar bugs but that the releases in-between don't? Stranger things have happened, I guess.
Western Digital pulls out this download, and most likely will release a new fix… no release time announced.
Removing My Book World Firmware Version 1.02.10 from Download (9/28/11)
yesterdayDue to ongoing issues, we are pulling Firmware Version 1.02.10. We will be reverting to Firmware Version 1.02.06 until at such time we can release a new firmware version. We do apologize for the inconvenience, and are working to fix this as soon as possible.
Please consult Answer ID 8422 for more information:
(my karma doesn't allow to publish links… yet)
I did the update just before they pulled it offline because I moved over from pc to mac last month and I didn't get MBWE to show up in Time machine. The MBWE is still online and I wonder if that might have to do with this link:

I'm a newbie on this matter and did this automatic script after the update of the firmware…
anyone got a packed firmware downgrade? My Mybook doesn't have internet access..
Guys, contact WD and they will give you instructions on how to fix this problem, they released a firmware patch as I am told.
We will be awaiting the new official firmware without this problem.
Another solution is to use www.mediafire.com/file/8xicbp2t2fokgze/wd-white-light-01.02.10-fix.zip this fake image to downgrade from 01.02.10 to 01.02.05.

This solution worked for me, as I couldn't use ssh to modify the needed files
Western Digital have officially released the updated firmware, available for downloading and install via the webUI. Please do that ASAP!
