MyWorldBook 2TB (white lights) used to disconnect from home network itself quite often. I dare to say too often and it's annoying. It's connected to router. Router dedicate to NAS IP according to NAS MAC address. Both have DHCP on. The problem started itself about 3 months ago. Since that I tried everything what I could but no progress. I read on forums that there're some users with the same problem but no solution. Static IP - didn't help. I noticed that it happen often when NAS isn't working and it's connected to net alone. I restored factory defaults and no help. I have also the newest firmware. Only a lot of job to copy all files back to disk. After the link is down appropriate LED on router blinks slowly. I know looking on router that is again disconnected. The cable is good I tried also another one. The only thing which help is to unplugged the the power off and than on again. The problem is that I use DNLA with my TV and NAS start indexing media files from the beginning - that means I have to wait about 2 hours to see all media files on TV screen. Another stupid thing is that all photos on my TV are very small and it's useless function at all. But this problem I solved with forum users help. After disconnection I receive mail from NAS as in subject of this letter. MyBook works perfectly if it's busy with another computer in my home net. My royer is Linksys E1000 so quite new one. There are three LAN lines busy. No1 is my main PC (Win7), no2 is VoIp phone, and no3 is MyBook (I tried to connect to other RJ no help). If I only turn my main PC off after about 5 minutes the MyBook link is down. If my main PC is on - MyBook will work properly even the whole day!!! It;s very strange. I noticed that something happend with HDD standby. It's ON in config. Earlier it was like sleeping or breathig, lights fadind regularly up and down. Now it seems doesn't work at all. It's also very hard to turn it off pressing the button located on the back. It lasts very long time and I have to press it for much longer then earlier. I think that all additional infos I wanted to send. Direct connection to PC - link is OK all the time. I made reset defaults of my router Linksys E1000 - no help. Hope somebody can help. Best regards.
Very interesting but strange observation: If I start MyBook as the first e.g. in the morning its's OK I can watch my Philips TV using DNLA media server (WiFi) and turn it off. Connection is OK all the time until I start my PC whch is connected by LAN. After some minutes link is down. After restart MyBook works properly together with my PC as long as both are on. If I turn PC off MyBook lose connection and link is down. Conclusion is that my PC (Win7) and MyBook are in some kind of conflict and that my PC disconnects MyBook in described situations. Very strange.
I too have been fighting the same problem. I have winXP & win7 pcs on my network. MBWII, works fine till I start a win7 pc. Does anyone understand the link-layer Topology that I have on my winxp/7 pcs to network them, is this what possibly be missing from MBWII? and causing it to loose NIC 1?
I am waiting for response from WD, if they come up with a fix, I'll share.
Szkrobi- Do you run a firewall/virus scanner like bitdefender total?
I use only Windows system firewall and Microsoft Security Essential Antivirus but I don't think it has any infuence on it. I suspected router but now I'm sure it's innocent too because it should correct itself after router restart. I think that this tiny Linux is in network conflict with Wn7 - this is not total conflict but also tiny conflict and Linux reaction is this link crash. I wonder if it's possible to install basic Win7 on MyBook with DLNA media server to use it with TV - Linux is not for ordinary people. It crashes more often then Windows no doing blue screen but black screen instead.
If I start MyBook as the first e.g. in the morning only lights on my router flash properly but there's NO CONNECTION but only what I have to do is to unplugg the LAN and put it in back. Then connection immediately is OK. In situation after switching off my PC when link is down the only help is total reset of MyBook using back button or unplugg off and on the power line.
Maybe the problem is on Windows 7 side? I think it started when I changed my system into Win 7 64b.
Microsoft Security Essential (it's firewall) in Windows 7 x64 caused this problem. After uninstall MyBook works like new:)
Problem solved.
