Hi, well after 4+ years my MBW Blue rings died. clicking hard drive and no blue light.
Looks like the My Book Live is the most up to date replacement, though I'm a little confused as the 2Tb MBW edition Mk II is listed as discontinued on amazon.co.uk ?
Anyway my questions are :
1) is it worth repairing the old MBW ? I know the disk is toast , fortunately I've been backing it up via the usb to an external 1Tb drive with rsync every night. I guess with a new disk and some (cough) copies of the firmware, it might be possible to turn it back into a working device ? I like the old thing, but this could be a lot of fuss. I might have a 5400 rpm sata disk drive somewhere
2) I'm scratching my head about how I would back up a MBL as it appears to no longer have the usb port !? Anyone else perplexed by this ? perhaps you backup to a second server. I wondered if anyone has used rsync to backup to a second NAS device. I wondered about some of the cheap NAS dongles, which would let me convert my 1Tb drive into a NAS, now that USB appears out
