My MBWE died (disk ticking) last week. fair enough. I had been rsyncing it via it's USB to an external drive.
I now have a probably good MBWE Blue ring, from which I have removed the hard drive.
My understanding is that I can install a debian-based distro onto a new disk and get the MBWE to boot from it. That sounds a nice idea, I can always use a lower power consumption linux server.
My question is which disk to use ? I don't think WD make the original 1Tb disk anymore. I could use any SATA 3.5" disk, but I'm concerned about the power consumption. Another approach would be to use a considerable smaller disk or make a 2.5" laptop drive to make the power consumption as low as possible (and the noise). Perhaps even a flash drive distro ?
My thinking is that if I needed substantial storage I could attach it via USB, while leaving the MBWE enclosure as uncluttered as possible.
Any thoughts ?
What do people do with a MBWE Blue ring where only the hard drive is bad ?
