Hello,
I'm assuming it's very likely i'm screwed but I thought a pleasant ask may get me some pointers to get me started anyway.
Had a my book world edition 2 blue rings gifted to me. The chap passing it over had robbed it of it's drives around 12 moons ago so I have no original disks to work from.
Looking at most of the guides/hacks etc they all seem to assume one wishes to upgrade the original disks or something similar, I haven't been able to find a guide that starts at empty drives and goes from there.
I'm not after anything super from this. While getting it to hunt down and actively download high quality blue ray images of hardcore gnome porn video's would of course be awesome just restoring it's basic functionality as a NAS box that can I can access over my windows network would be more than fine. If there's a guide out there for an undertaking something like this would someone please be so kind as to point me at it.
To be clear: I have the empty shell of the NAS with all the electronics. No disks, no CD's, no other original parts like drivers or utility software to talk to the box.
Any help/tips/suggestions-of-what-to-use-the-empty-box-for-as-i've-got-no-chance would be greatfully recieved.
Edit: Hunting further does seem to point at a whole load of guides with usable images etc. So i'll ask a final question: Can this thing be hacked to take a pair of 2GB drives? I'm assuming as it's linux controlled it's merely a case of getting the kernel etc upgraded to a point where it has some method of speaking to bigger drives.
