I try to mount wd to my dreambox but I cant. Please can anyone help me to do it?
Just bought a WD Mybook myself and first thing i didi was to install shh and get it mounted on my DM500s via NFS.
MAny thanks to everyone in this community and generally all people spending time on embedded linux :)
Are you trying to mount it using NFS ( follow guide to install) or CIFS ( samba is already build in on virgin WD boxes) ?
Which DB image are you using? I know Gemini and Rudream very well but you really shouldn't have any probs with any images.
In any case you need to have full write permissions on the share you
are trying to mount and for recordings (mount via dreambox expert setup or webif) you
need a folder named 'movie' inside the share.
It still virgin. I try to mount it bu adding a new folder via cifs. Creating a user from web interface and changing the ip in automount (Gemini).
Shall I create a second folder names movie? inside the share folder movies?.. If this is the problem I try it.!
Also is it possible to mount it via nfs with virgin firmware?. In the beggining I want to avoid hacking it..
My opinion is that it is worth to install NFS as it offers much better performance at least for most people.
If you want to stick with CIFS then:
1. Create a new share. Give it full write permissions for everyone. Open that share on your windows explorer or
with your Linux OS and add a folder inside named 'movie' regardless of the share name.
2. On your dreambox webif choose where you want to mount this share. On latest Gemini images
the correct path is: /var/mnt/hdd. Insert: admin for username and the admin password.
No need to tick any special boxes there except rw. All the rest are NFS related.
If in doubt you can always telnet to your dreambox and test mounting
from the console like this:
mount -t cifs -o user=admin,password=yousupersecretpassword,rw //mybookipadress/SHARENAME /var/mnt/hdd
Check for system corruption? Never seen that one before. The usual is for DB to complain about permission whereas you just chmod -R 777 /shares/internal/DREAM and you are good to go.
I'm new to linux so don't flame me to bad =)
I have just recieved my Dreambox DM500C and installed Darkstar2 and cccam2.09.
I would now like to be able to record and play videos from my WD MBWD 500GB.
Do I need to use the NFS server hack (http://mybookworld.wikidot.com/nfs-server) to be able to mount it?
I was trying to mount this to my dreambox for 5 hours yesterday so some help would be appriciated.
At the moment I have installed both the programs that was on the WDMBWD CD (the backup program and the other one) and I have created a new username/password and shared some folders.
Ok. so I got it mounted using CIFS but I don't know how to get it to record…
