Hey guys… I've been watching this forum for a while and bought quite a few of these WDMBL's to test out it's potential. I was absolutely blown away simply using it to rsync a few devices, using the WDMBL as the central repository to both send and receive data depending on the script (I had a few early problems with cygwin-rsync syntax), but now I have scripts running on both Linux and Windows all sharing/exchanging data. —-cool!
So, now I'm experimenting running a WDMBL as SME server (DHCP, DNS, Samba PDC, LDAP & Rsync) and using MS Terminal Server for thin client (Wyse terminal) RDP sessions. As WDMBL will be the PDC/LDAP server it will host user accounts and store all user data. I plan to setup a second WDMBL as the offsite backup using the following guide: hxxp://mybookworld.wikidot.com/tutorial-setup-2mbwe-with-rsync-over-the-internet
I'm not sure if this forum is well frequented but it was an absolute goldmine of information when I was first researching optware etc. I figured I would sign-up and post my progress with this current project. I'm running firmware version: MyBookLive 02.10.09-124 : Core F/W (apnc-021009-124-20111113.deb)
I decided not to use optware and use the available Debian main/experimental packages and so far everthing has installed perfectly without much need for modification. So far I have confirmed working models of samba as PDC with roaming profiles, tinydns and dnscache (djbdns) serving internal SVR records (_ldap._tcp.dc._msdcs.DOMAIN.NAME) dhcp3 (dnsmasq will not handle SRV records) rsync will be straight forward, and currently I'm experimenting with slapd (OpenLDAP).
So far I've spent only a small amount of time with OpenLDAP (2 hours today) and have confimed my PDC is running the samba.schema but I have a lot of work to do in completing the full LDAP integration. I'll post back when I have some more progress but if anyone has any experience with Samba+LDAP please let me know.
I would appreciate help with this project and all comments welcome!
