how can i install it? Can I?
Try apt-get install amule
You'll need to run amuled, the daemon for amule (so you're better of with apt-get install amule-daemon amule-utils). The amule package includes the fully featured GUI, which won't run on the MBL.
You'll have three options to manage the daemon: amuleweb (the web interface — kinda slow but intuitive and good on features), amulecmd (the command-line interface — works fine and low on resources, but not very intuitive and not fully featured: no list of shared files, for instance), and amulegui (an amule GUI interface that connects directly to your server — never got it to work in the MBL).
With any of those, the set-up takes some configuring, but should work fine (with the exception of amulegui and categories, both things that I haven't managed to get to work properly in this scenario). Amuled itself is pretty stable and doesn't require much RAM/CPU (although RAM usage should go up according to the amount of shared files). If you need any more help let us know.
Hi, i install this program, but i can't open it. Can you answer me how works web interface for it? How manage this program through MyBookLive and how can i delete it if i need? Thanks in advance!
Robert, the first thing is to make sure that you've correctly installed the amule-daemon and amule-utils packages; try running amuled and look for error messages etc. If it seems ok, close it (Ctrl+C), then run amuled -f (this will start amuled in the background) and try amulecmd -c status. If this works, it means amuled is running fine and you can connect to it via amulecmd.
Next step would be configuring amuleweb, the web server. There's a good tutorial for setting up amuleweb at the aMule official wiki.
Try those things and let me know if you run into trouble, I might be able to help.
Hi, I tried the steps that you wrote above.
The program says that amuled working to background
What do I do next?
The fact is that all manipulations were made using Putty via root, and the program all the time wrote warning! you are running aMule as root. Is this correct and how connect and configure web interface?
It's probably better not to run amule as root (in general, you should only use the root account if strictly necessary). I have created a amule user specifically for that (for organization sake), but you probably can use any non-root user.
I don't remember all the steps to configure the web interface, and unfortunately the link I provided above is temporarily down. You could google amuleweb tutorial; ask for help here if you run into problems. Once amuleweb is set up, you'll have to point your browser to http://<your MyBookLive's local IP>:<amuleweb port number> — something like http://192.168.0.100:4711; you'll define that port number in the configuration process. That address will bring you an interface that is quite similar to regular aMule / eMule.
But even if you don't configure amuleweb, you can still use aMule through the command line — it's not as practical, but it works (it's also better suited for scripting, although that'll probably not be your case right now). For that you'll use the command amulecmd; have a look at its manual. Using that command you can search, add files, pause them etc.
P.S. — the aMule official wiki also has instructions on how to set amule (and amuleweb) to start automatically every time you boot your MBL.
Btw, a cached version of the amule wiki can still be accessed via the internet wayback machine at AMuleweb description
Recently i bought a MyBookLive 2 TB and i tried to install aMule.
I search for aMule Adunanza but i don't find a version for Debian lenny distro and ppc architecture, so i install aMule "classic".
Installation has been done via SSH and it works fine. I installed two packages aMule-daemons e aMule-utils and i configured all to use aMuleWeb.
Main issue is that i can't connect to Kad network (ed2k isn't important for me).
My network configuration comprises a router wireless which is connected to my HAG. On router i opened ports TCP and UDP. I think that network configuration is ok because from my Macbook, where i installed aMule Adunanza, i can correctly connect to KADU network. Obviously i opened different TCP and UDP port for aMule on my Macbook and the one on MyBookLive.
Giving command "netsat" on MyBookLive i have got this output that confirms me that UDP port it's opened:
MyBookLive:~/.aMule# netstat -anp |grep amule

I think that issue could be due to firewall on MyBookLive, so I also try this command "iptables -L":
FATAL: Module ip_tables not found.
iptables v1.4.2: can't initialize iptables table ‘filter’: Table does not exist (do you need to insmod?)
Perhaps iptables or your kernel needs to be upgraded.
It seems that there aren't filter rules for firewall.
I can attach my amule.conf configuration file if this can help.
Could anyone help me? Has somebody installed aMule on MyBookLive?
I have installed it, and it reports that Kad is connected — although Kad searches don't work, I'm not sure why. Have you double checked your port forwarding configs in the router? After that, perhaps we should go through your amule.conf…? (Have you copied it from another instalation, or is it the default one that was shipped with the package?)
The kernel that the MBL uses really doesn't have the modules for ip_tables. That sucks, because it also breaks most IP-filtering in other apps.
Thanks for the answer! Port forwarding is ok on the router, in fact if from NAS cli i give command "netstat -anp | grep amuled", i have got this output that confirm me that port TCP 4662 and UDP 4672 are opened:
MyBookLive:~# netstat -anp | grep amuled
tcp 0 0 0.0.0.0:4712 0.0.0.0:* LISTEN 2862/amuled
tcp 0 0 0.0.0.0:4662 0.0.0.0:* LISTEN 2862/amuled
tcp 0 0 127.0.0.1:4712 127.0.0.1:36569 ESTABLISHED 2862/amuled

udp 0 0 0.0.0.0:4672 0.0.0.0:* 2862/amuled
I configured amule.conf myself following a guide on internet and starting from default amule.conf that i found after package installation.
I could post or send by email my amule.conf, so you can give me some tips about configuration issue.
I don't have many ideas on what is causing your issue, but thought that perhaps comparing both amule.conf files could give some clues. I'm posting mine, which is working, so you can compare it with yours. I've replaced shadowed passwords with '…' before pasting it here.

I copy your settings in my amule.conf file but issue is always present. Any ideas?
I notice a different between two files: in yours there is this voice:
while in my conf file there isn't. These IPs are referred to?
(sorry for the delay — was away from home for a while.) I've put that option in ("AllowedIPs") just to avoid the web interface from being accessed outside of my local network.
As I said, I'm not sure what could be causing your problem with KAD… if you do solve it, let us know.
have you tried following my advice on the replies above? Start from my first one and tell us what you're having trouble with, we'll try to help you. (Be aware that you'll need to do most of the process using a command-line interface: if you've never done that, particularly with the MyBook Live or other GNU/Linux-based system, there is a certain learning curve.)
