Some theoretical procedures (correct me if im wrong):
This is for Drives that are still intact who hasn't erased their drive yet:
1. Download the "Image" files.
2. Decompress the "7z" file into a new folder (use 7-zip), and transfer these over to your Linux box somewhere (I used Fedora).
3. Attach the SATA drive from the MBWE to the Linux system (some older systems will require drivers, etc., for SATA, but certainly OpenSuse10.3 supports common adapters right from the install DVD). You will probably find that the drive is detected as sda or similar.
4. use fdisk to alter the partition types to 83 - this allows them to be mounted and read. Make NO other changes using fdisk. You may need to reboot the system at this point as the types have changed. If data recovery from the data partition is your objective, you may well be able to do this at this point by mounting /dev/sda4 (or whatever it's called in your system)
5. if you need to replace the MBR of the disk, do it now, "dd if=sda_mbr of=/dev/sda bs=512 count=1".
6. transfer the image from the downloaded file to the appropriate partition. Use a command such as this one: bzip2 -cd sda1_image.bz2 | dd of=/dev/sda1 (-c is to force stdout and d is to force decompression. Then it is just passed to dd that writes bit by bit into the partition) Remember to make sure that you're writing to the correct disk, and that you're using the correct input file and output partition.
7. Once you have done that for the partitions you need, use fdisk to alter the partition types back to fd (linux raid), and save the changes back to the disk.
8. Shut the system down, refit the drive to the MBWE and you should have a "fresh" MBWE ready to boot.
If you have a complete clean drive, wiped and erased.
1. Restore the sda_mbr. "dd if=sda_mbr of=/dev/sda bs=512 count=1"
2. Restore the partition table. "sfdisk /dev/sda < sda_ptable"
3. Restore the Image partition. "bzip2 -cd sda1_image.bz2 | dd of=/dev/sda1" do the rest for sda2, sda3, sda4.
If you get some error about not writable. You might have to follow step 4 and 6 above instructions. Make sure you change it back if you do this.
4. Not sure if you need to do this:
tune2fs -c -1 -i 0 /dev/sda1
tune2fs -c -1 -i 0 /dev/sda3
tune2fs -c -1 -i 0 /dev/sda4
5. Shut the system down, refit the drive to the MBWE and you should have a "fresh" MBWE ready to boot.
You can repeat the same thing for the 2nd drive with the image for Drive B, but I doubt you need to since the drive B is a raid mirror and it will do a copy from A anyways.
