I have bought a second-hand MBWE 2 (the 2 disk version) without any disks. As I only have one SATA disk, I have been trying to set it up to run with just the one disk, but without any success. I have tried using both the "Debian Lenny" image files and the "RAID1_MBWE2_500GB_HDDA.7z" images but with the same results:
Turn power on.
Blue light on the front flashes very briefly.
Hard drive spins up (but is not otherwise accessed, as far as I can tell).
Fan does *not* come on.
The MyBook does not get as far as requesting an IP from DHCP.
Given the lack of HD access, I think it is failing very early in the boot sequence.
I've tried putting the disk on the other SATA cable and also pressing the button at the front. As I've never seen a working MyBook I'm not sure what to expect - any ideas on what I could try next?
My only thought is that the lack of a second HD is making the MyBook fail to start - but surely it should be resilient to a HD failure? I'm not sure if buying a second SATA drive to prove this hypothesis would be a good use of money.
