Story: I had working FTP server on Mybook till 7 days ago when I bricked it by doing something very stupid with permissions. I restored it by rescue procedure - in the process erased my home disk, because Ubuntu llive CD read my disk as SDA - be carefull!!!), spent few days rescuing data from it, but finally I did it.
I tried to set up vsftpd again by this tutorial and was very unseccsesfull - a lot of errors, no point of describing them.
I erased all vsftpd files, including vsftpd.conf (using WinSCP).
Downloaded and install vsftpd from link I used 4 months ago:
wget ftp://ftp.penguin.cz/pub/users/mhi/mybook/vsftpd.tar.gz -q -O - | tar xzvf - -C /
I have users created from web interface, so first thing I edit etc/passwd and set their home directories like:
for user <username2> I didn't want to see all folders in shares/internal so I did just
I made file
in which I put just
Then I edit in etc/vsftpd.conf to look like:
ftpd_banner=Welcome to FTP service
all other lines are commented.
chmod -R 777
all folders in shares/internal
and that's all!
Being quite unfamiliar with linux editing I don't know if all that make sense, but Vsftpd works like charm.
When I serched for help on this wiki I found a lot of unanswered questions on setting vsftpd, so i hope this could help some of the guys that are unexpirienced on linux like I am.
