I have had a 500BD MBWE for many months, actually it's rather full, so decided today to order a new 1TB MBWE and once it arrives, to hack my old device after transfering off the data.
While searching around I found this wiki and got very interested in doing this hack.
My experience level is not all that great, but I do have a linux Fedora server running at home but have to admit I am a GUI kind of guy, and don't do very well with the command line stuff. Let's just say I get by.
I also updated the firmware of my mbwE today before reading any of the information on this wiki and the new version is 02.00.18 The old version was 01.01.18
My first question is, after upgrading my old device, am I going to have problems doing these hacks since it appears they were all created back at the old firmware level?
My second question is this SSH thing. Up to now, I have only used the actual computer keyboard and screen on my Fedora system to make changes. I have used telnet a couple times to check if I had connectivity when I was messing with my network and things stopped working. Needless to say, a ping would have been just as useful since logging in with telnet was about the extent of my abilities.
I have only used my windows system to access my current MBWE device. I expect I need to install some client on my windows machine to use this SSH login. I'll be doing that next.
Since it will be another week before my 1TB MBWE arrives, I have plenty of time to get things set up. I suspect I can also login to Fedora with SSH which will give me a platform to learn that very first basic step.
