I don't know where I went wrong this time. I tried a bunch of times to clone the HDD, but never got it to work when I started up the nas. Finally, I thought I have to go with the old disk until I figure something out, but now it refuses to run with that either. I should probably make a clean install, but all the links on this forum seem to be cold nowadays. Is there any way to get it to spin, or should I just throw it in the bin?
U may want to replace the power supply cord. I don't see how cloning a working hdd would mess up it up.
I cloned it several times with Clonezilla with various settings, and a couple of times with an old Spotmau rescue CD.
The original disc seems to have all partitions intact, it spins up normally, but it doesn't go anywhere from there. No LEDs light up.
I've had the same issue before with mine, which is the white light version. I bought a replacement power cord on amazon.com from upbright. I would try this first. I also want to mention the new power supply had better specs than the original and it worked out great for me. Thx.
I think I know what you mean. I had the same issue a while ago, and I recently had to buy a new power supply for it. It sure reminds of that behaviour, but it's a bit different. Now the disk spins up and keeps spinning, but with the bad power supply it just restarted and restarted. I'd probably need the "rescue" files to get it to the state it was as new, but all links to them are gone cold, so they are nowhere to be found.
i agree. my original bad power supply it just restarted and restarted. later down the road, i also had a separate issue in which the white light was on for 30 seconds, then off for good. Only the hdd’s are spinning without access. You're thinking about starting back over from scratch, which would be my last resort. Hopefully someone will respond to you with the rescue files.
