Has anyone set up ssh or ftp to their computer that has mbwe attached, so you can still acess remotely but you maintain the drive and it's warranty? So then it's not a network drive, but an additional drive in your pc that you can access through ssh or ftp.
So you want to setup your PC as FTP server?
You can do that and you can map the MyBook to a drive and share it in FTP.
Don't know any SSH server program.
exactly - doesn't that make it a little simpler to access the drive without possibly bricking it? And so any noobs, such as myself, who don't have any linux prowess and/or need easy access for themselves & others - won't do anything beyond their scope?
I think a big benefit is maintaining the warranty on your MBWE, bypassing Mionet altogether, and being able to take on future updates and/or being able to do something else with it later - such as doing a different hack and not locking yourself into this one.
I think this site should have a section on the option I'm describing, as this site should list all options available for the MBWE.
You're not locked into these hacks, as long as you dont brick your mybook you can always install the latest firmware which in tern takes the mybook back to its original setup.
