original MyBook World (blue ring) 2x1TB in RAID1 configuration
configured 2 users with rw-permissions on two shares (BACKUP, MEDIA)
two other shares with public-permissions (PUBLIC, TIMEMACHINE)
My Hacking to enable AFP
enabled SSH by Martin Hinner approach
installed netetalk and avhati
1) dbus does not start —> LDSO_RUNPATH issue?
2) netetalk afpd starts without error on the console but in the /var/log/messages apear that he cannot find umxxx files. —> my diagonsis: maybe also LDSO_RUNPATH issue
wanted to upgrade to fw 4.x to resolve LDSO_RUNPATH issue
moved out opt to /shared/internal/opt
downloaded fw to /root
unpack fw + integrity test successful
killed all smbd, lighthttpd, afpd, … processes
CANNOT unmount /share/internal also after killing some other running processes
not started to apply the new fw 4.x
reboot the drive to make sure that no external users are on the partition /share/internal and to unmount the /share/internal after killing again the server processes (especially from /opt).
BUT after reboot: smbd public shares are available, and sshd is running but cannot authenticate with my users to sshd and smb rw shares and lighthttpd is not running (no web admin interface)
—> so I am locked out of the device
before I now dismantle the box and mount now one of the discs in a linux box to recover all my /share/internal files and bring it back to vanilla state or check the passwd file I wanted to understand what happen?
why does smbd and sshd have lost the information on the users?
has the unpacking of the fw already changed some authentication information of the passwd file?
how can I get into the drive without dismantling the disks to install them in another linux box?
if I have to dismantle - how do I make sure to not screw up the RAID1 integrity?
is it relevant which of the two mirrored discs I pick?
any advice is much appreciated, what is your diagnosis and your recommendation for next steps?
