I've got my drive connected up to the Internet at my home and have removed the moinet stuff of it. I still want to access the information on it using scp from wherever I am in the world but my home location does no have a fixed IP Address. I'm new to this and I'm sure there are any number of solutions to this question but what is the best way to access the drive behind a potentially moving IP Address. It's on a DSL line and I don't know how often my IP Address changes on that line but I'm sure that it probably does. I took the IP address of my router away with me and I can't ping it so perhaps the address has changed and perhaps it just doesn't answer pings.
Anyhow I've not opened a port as yet for SSH traffic but I'll do that but I am wondering about a roaming IP Address. Moinet obviously had a solution to this problem which probably meant that the Book sent it's IP address to a server? I suppose you could write a script that check the Public IP address of the link and email me when it changes. That does seem a bit non eligent though. Anybody already solved this problem and I'd be happy to hear opinions.
