I have a MBL 3TB. I tried installing transmission using apt-get. During installation it replaced the ssh server, installed apache, etc. All this lead to the following:
now the system doesn't boot porperly, the led remains whitish, won't reach green. Can't ssh into it anymore and can't access the web UI either.
Here is how far I got trying to fix it:
I disassambled it, took it out of the case and connected the hard disk to my laptop (runing Ubuntu 11.10) via a SATA->USB converter.
Here comes the problem. sudo blkid doesn't see the device at all. sudo fdisk /dev/sdb does see it. It says
WARNING: GPT (GUID Partition Table) detected on '/dev/sdb'! The util fdisk doesn't support GPT. Use GNU Parted.
I can print the partition table from fdisk though, here it is:
Disk /dev/sdb: 801.6 GB, 801569726464 bytes
255 heads, 63 sectors/track, 97451 cylinders, total 1565565872 sectors
Units = sectors of 1 * 512 = 512 bytes
Sector size (logical/physical): 512 bytes / 512 bytes
I/O size (minimum/optimal): 512 bytes / 512 bytes
Disk identifier: 0x00000000
Device Boot Start End Blocks Id System
/dev/sdb1 1 4294967295 2147483647+ ee GPT
The fact that it can see one partition only, and it's 801GB is alarming.
Then I tried the script from
It warned me that "script could not find a matching sd unit connected to system."
Then I ran the script with the /dev/sdb argument:
sudo debricker.sh /dev/sdb
Then it warned that "Error: Invalid argument during seek for read on /dev/sdb
is this REALLY the disk you want?"
I said no, and that's where I stopped. So far I did not write anything on the HD since I took it out of the cover and connected it to the laptop, because of these bad signs.
How should I proceed?
I am in deep …. if I can't get it to work, I got it from work and at one point may need to return it.
Advice would be greatly appreciated!!!
