I have a quick question. Is there any way to connect the MBWE directly to a computer via USB? Does some sort of a hack exist to enable it?
I'm kinda guessing, but I think that it should be possible because I was able to connect two computers using USB cable. Unfortunatelly I don't have this cable any more so I can't test it with MyBook. It's also a few years back but from what I remember, it was a pretty expensive cable(in comparisson to a normal one). I had something like this cable: http://www.conniq.com/FAQ/DCC-USB-cable-bridge.htm
As he (or she) says, The port is just an host port. that meens that you can't use it as an exsternal disk drive. unless you pop out the harddrive and plug it in to a sata to usb converter.
2 X MBWE 500gb
Let me disagree. Have you read the link that I've posted. Ok, it's said that it was used with special cable and special software. If such a software exists also for linux than there shouldn't be any problem to connect to MyBook over usb… (… and yes I've already read that thread that you posted ;-) )
From what I can see it emulates a LAN interface, so technically it is not usb at all.
It would all come down to the drivers. Considering the platform that we are using, unless there are drivers built into the kernel I doubt you could get it working.
