I noticed in some other threads recently that someone mentioned that MySQL maxes out the processor. I found the same to be true, even when running a query to just check the version:
However, I have found the optware installation of MySQL REALLY useful for one thing: Automated Backups! I made a shell script that runs through cron and backs up the databases of 4 different websites (in SQL format using mysqldump) to my shared folders directory, archives them (tar.gz format), and then emails me (using the built-in ssmtp) when it has completed the process with the information regarding the size of the SQL file and the size of the compressed file.
This is REALLLY useful for someone like me who is a web hosting provider, since I can use the MyBook WE to perform automated backups offsite at my home, and then move the files to my computer to burn to CD/DVD once a month. If anyone is interested, I will create a WIKI article showing how….
