I currently have a 500gb MBP for music, photos, videos(not DVDs). I then have a 1tb MBE for DVDs of mine that are starting to get scratched up. I bought a 1tb MBE from BestBuy when they were on sale for 175 but didn't get around to opening it. I then saw the World Ed. and got very curious. I Currently use either my laptop for playback of DVDs on to my HDTV. I have started working on installing linux to the PS3 and just got the DVD playback to work on it. So what I am wondering is
a.If setup correctly using whatever hacks and programs there are if I will have any problems viewing DVDs via my network with either the laptop or PS3?
b.I have seen some media servers that transcode files to the 360 for playback. Do they have much problem working with .vob files to the 360?
c.I really would love to hook up my other externals to this thing. I have seen it can do 1 but can it handle more then 1 with the proper hardware?
d.Not a must but it would be nice to still be able to do all this from outside the home.
I am sure I will have more questions but for now that is it. I have just started looking in to this today so if I have missed a topic with all these answers i apologize. It just seemed better to ask those who know instead of dig through the internet all night. Also if anyone has a better idea about different hardware to do what I want I am all ears.
EDIT: I rip my DVDs as they are and really do not want to convert them to any different format. I also really want the DVD menu system to work. Not sure why, that just happens to be a thing of mine I guess.
