I've had a look around and a bit of a play with LVM but all I managed to do was brick my MBW. After recovering it I thought I'd ask: I want to create multiple partitions in the data storage (inside sda4 OR in addition to sda4?), and mount those, then share each individually. This is to achieve e.g. limiting OSX Time Machine backups (as it grows until the disk is full - if it only sees a 50G disk instead of a 1T disk with 'quotas', it will only expand to fill the 50G), allowing some partitions to be mounted as ATA over Ethernet, segregation of user data (prefer this to the folders/web UI permissions), etc.
I am familiar with the concepts of VGs, PVs, LVs, etc but I've never used LVM specifically. I can't work out what it's harping on about with 'raid auto-detect' and most of my changes are overwritten at boot anyway.
Has anyone successfully subdivided the data storage into seperate partitions?
