Hi friends ..
First can I say Im amazed at finding this forum and equally amazrd that so much effort has already gone into fixing and modifying this westen Digi cockup of a product..
I must be a glutton for punishment as I now own 2 of these units..
My first 1TB WB was bought under a misguided impulse to add some much needed inexpensive networked media storage to my system…
Luckilly I read about the nightmare that is mionet before installing the software …and so simply added the 'book' as a network share..
Its slow but functional …and was relatively happy with it..
Sadly..whilst checking out ebay I spotted another identical 1TB unit up for grabs 'used' ….and on an impulse I foolishly bought it.
This unit appears to have been 'exposed' to mionet ..as checking out the book after mounting a share.. I spotted an inaccessible directory ID2419XXXX …which Im guessing is mionet related ?
There is however a mojor problem with this WB …insofar as I cannot write a file to the book larger that 2gb …without an error message appearing to say the network is inaccessible.
At which point no further writing is possible without powering down the Mybook unit ..and rebooting (sometimes twice).
When it comes back up I can then write another 2gb ..before it locks.
Even after the network error message ..it is still possible to read any ammount of data from the share..just not write.
In frustration I dissassembled both of my Mybook drives and temporarily connected the 'problem hard drive ' to the known good hardware of my first book.
I booted up and tried once again to write 3gb to the hybrid book …and once again failed.
..thus proving it is an issue with the hard drive …and not the hardware/firmware.
Is this a know issue with some 1TB worldbooks ? ..or is the drive actually faulty ?
Can anything be done ?
I thought perhaps due to mionet being initialised ..and perhaps if it were reset to the 'out of the box condition' …but there is no facility.
The drive is still usable ..but would take forever to fill a 2gb and a reboot per write.
I hope its ok to post this here ..and I also need to say ..I know absolutely nothing about linux so please be kind in any replies of a technical nature…
keep up the good work guys …and I'll just keep reading.

Hi friends ..
I've heard others with similar issues.
Question: What is the firmware version of each of the boxes. The one that works, and the one that doesn't? This can be obtained from the web interface of each of the boxes.
There was another guy who was having the same issue with a "used" box. What he did was wipe the "bad" drive completely, and used the images from this site to reimage it back to factory (which has the 1.xx software version), and has had no problems with it since.
The question was asked because I'm curious if maybe a specific firmware version has the problem, when others don't?
Hi ET ..
thanks for replying …
Not sure its neccessarily a firmware issue…
…but I eventually cloned the entire contents of my good working 1tb single drive book to my defective book….
I seem to remember the firmware version being 01.01.15 in the 'good' book …and the firmware in the faulty book being 2.xx.xx
Since the cloning which has made the faulty book functional ..but with mac issues…the firmware in both books now reports as 01.01.18
odd though as I never opted to change the firmware in the 'working' book ..but it does appear to report a minor change.
you can read my progress in this these 2 threads :-
