Hi friends ..I hope some kind soul can point me in the right direction with this..but first a few details..
I origionally purcgased a MyBook 1tb singe drive which is fully functional if a bit slow ..and has never been used with mionet ..
This drive is almost full of media ..and so I bought a second 'used' unit (also a mk1 single drive 1TB…but this MyBook is faulty insofar as it wasn't possible to write blocks of data larger than 2gb in one sitting ..without an error message saying the network was no longer accessible ..and requiring a power down and re-boot to write any further data…
This problem did not affect reading from the drive …no restrictions and no failure except after writing.
I suspected the drive itself or the firmware …so stripped down both of my 'books' …which are identical …and simply swapped the drive over .
This proved to me the problem was with the drive ..and not the attached hardware or the firmware.
Next thing I tried was to attach the faulty drive to my windows pc …. and took a look at the partitions under 'drive management'
I then took the bold step to delete all partitions …afterall ..the drive was no use as it was …
I then created a new full sized partition and formatted with ntfs..
This allowed me to check if indeed ..a file larger than 2gb could be written to the harddrive …which completed successfully
So ..the drive _isn't_ faulty but maybe misconfigured or somehow restricted when it its origional condition..
I then deleted the partion again..
The next step I figured ..was to try and clone directly - disk to disk - my 'good' my book drive (all 1tb including all partitions and my precious data)
to the now 'empty' drive …and for this I chose Ghost 11 in dos mode as I don't function in Linux (sorry) ..
All went well ..and the job completed after approx 6 hours …
but sadly after refitting the drive into its mybook housing …the drive did not boot …
Im assuming not all data was copied …possibly the boot record didn't clone ?
..or maybe Im missing something ..
Can anyone help ?
Perhaps a different clone tool ?…but please it must be something I can do under windoze …as its all I know..
Has anyone successfully done this before and if so …how ?
Thanks for reading..
