Hi, I am a fresh owner of a 1TB WDMBWE.
Being a compulsive buyer, I start reading reviews about it only after having bought it.
However (so far it is just a week I got it) the only thing I can confirm among all the negative reviews is that it is really slow !
It is not noisy at all, as someone says, and I hope it will not burn out, as happened to some other guys, and has never abruptly disconnected, but it is really slow !
I have it connected to a wireless router but I do not think that this is the reason.
The trasmission rate between to PCs both connected wireless to the router, is much much higher than that between a PC connected wireless and the WDMBWE cabled to the router !
I am just now experimenting a transfer of a DVD iso image from a PC to the net drive. Its size is 8.200 KB and the transfer is expected to complete in something more than 2 hours !
That is more or less the duration of the movie and additional contents.
Nevertheless yesterday I saw some scenes from another iso image already stored on the net drive, just a few scenes, but they were rendered smoothly and without stops. In the next days I will try to see a whole movie and perhaps two movies from two PCs at the same time (would it word ?).
Then the answers are :
No , there is not that limit on the size of the files to be trasferred
Yes, you can stream videos from it (and then the music will not be a concern, needing much less speed)
Reading the reviews I was directed to this and other sites offering hints to overcome some bottleneck and get something more from this item.
I will try to apply them (eg remove mionet processes etc).
I just connected to it via ssh. It is now a saved session in my PuTTY !
Is there some good port of gcc for it ?
bye and thanks
