If I have a folder (on the share) and I try to copy into it some more folder from my PC (specificaly from my DVD), for some reason it first copies the folder stracture and then asks me if I want to over-write the emtpy folders it has just copied. If I put all this folders into one new folder, on my dekstop and try to copy this single one, then everything is just fine. Furthermore, this happens when copying yo public share or private share, it also happens when the shared is either mapped or unmapped. This is a very strange way of dealing and I was wondering if it is something known or if it part of the modifications I have made to the drive. My drive is MBWEII and I have activated ssh and sftp and I have installed optware and nano.
If we reduce your problem to its basic elements, it seems that the causal element is the fact that you are copying from a dvd drive. I would hazard a guess that this is not a problem with the MBWE but with windows.
Do you have another share that you can copy to? ie from on a different computer. If you do, try copying from the dvd and see if the problem is replicated.
OK, I shall try it just to be sure, but for some reason, I dought it is windows oriented issue. I shall inform of the outcome in the afternoon.
Thanks for the reply.
Wel… you were right! It seems like that is vista specific and Samba most probably, like the fact that vista ultimate cannot save my password and I have to type it every time I restart. I have also an XP laptop
XP->MBWEII perfect, Vista -> XP perfect….. Vista -> MBWEII not very good. I also find something more interesting…. there where mainly some multisession DVDs that are doing that, NOT all of them.
So what if you close the disc? Does that change things?
I can's say that I've ever used a multisession disk.
I really do not know just yet. It seems there is some issues with vista-samba, like the fact that vista won't save the password, while XP works just fine. I will keep on searching.
