I've been using GCC to compile and install some sources when I realised that the CPU optimisations were not acutally showing up in the ./configure process output. I went and did some exploring and found the following;
The WorldBook that I have has a CPU: ARM926EJ-Sid revision 5 (ARMv5TEJ).
So, I added to .bash-profile (before the if statement at the end)
export CFLAGS="-mcpu=arm926ejs -mfp=2 -O2"
which, according to some of the reports I've read, should give some interesting speed increases once the recompiles are done.
