It is a good idea to install vsftpd as it is the only way to UPLOAD Huge files to your Mybook.
Note that you can download huge files using the Web File ManageR.
I use vsftpd in the following way :
Anonymous login is disabled
Only one account "UploadUser" can use ftp. This account has a strong password
Traffic is not encrypted.
The Upload Folder is defined and points to /shares/internal/PUBLIC/WWW/FTP
All Users will upload to this folder and uploaded files will get the www-data permissions…
I have created a link into my https webpage that points to this Upload Folder and contains the password :
i do not need to communicate the password to my friends.
There is now a Blue ring Feature pack for vsftpd : VSFTPD Feature pack
Feature packs are single click installations…
The vsftpd config is done in the following way :
i have not installed the IPKG package as vsftpd is natively installed in the Mybook…
i have uncommented the following line in /etc/inetd.conf
#ftp stream tcp nowait root /usr/bin/vsftpd /etc/vsftpd.conf
so now i have the following line :
ftp stream tcp nowait root /usr/bin/vsftpd /etc/vsftpd.conf
i have created the FTP folder :
Create the Upload USER user.
I have created a "UploadUser" user using the standard Inerface of Western Digital Mybook
create a file /etc/vsftpd.user_list
that will contain the list of authorized users. All ftp users needs to be declared in this list…
This file contain only one line : "UploadUSer"
My /etc/vsftpd.conf file looks like :
