I'm using the recovery tutorial here around the forum. Thanks to all people that make this info available.
I have only 1 disk (500GB) and I don't want to use the MBWEII in raid, becouse I've a better NAS raid5 from Buffalo in my net.
So I decided to use the WD 500GB, that I have in my hand clean, to revive the MBWEII.
I have followed all the step explained in the various tutorial, but no chance to startup the rig.
This are the notes:
1. I think the MBWE doesn't boot. I hear some click but no boot at all.
2. I use the SDA_MBR as explained than I partitioned the disk (ybookworld.wikidot.com/forum/t-48373/backup-images-for-wd-mybook-we-ii-2tb).
3.I've copied all the 3 partition with dd to the sda1,sda2,sda3
4.I've also checked all the mdadm steps and changed mdadm.conf UUID.
Has anybody rescued MBWEII with only one disk, or both are needed otherwise it won't boot ?
The boot sector is there. But where is the second stage ? I see lot of space between partition 1 and boot sector.
May be I need something missing here ? (eg: rescue.img that someone posted in the forum?).
Attaching the clean 500GB drive to a VMware Linux box, the disk is "sdb" and not "sda" (this is ubuntu system disk). Is this a problem ?
Thanks for any help !
